How Does Vapor Blasting Work?

With sandblasting, soda blasting, or virtually any other technique of this nature, abrasive media is applied directly to the target surface. In the vapor-based process, the media –in an extremely fine, powdered form – is suspended in vaporized water.

Depending on the technique and equipment being used, the vapor is aimed directly at the target within a specialized cabinet. The cleaning process occurs due to the flow of vapor over the object, rather than by direct impact. This provides a buffer of sorts, between the target and the blast media, leaving a softer finish without damage or degradation.

What Are the Advantages of Vapor Blasting?

The primary advantage of this technique, especially as compared to direct blasting methods, is that it cleans effectively without causing damage or altering the part in any way.

In addition, vapor-borne media can penetrate even the most microscopic cracks and crevices to work its magic, whereas other cleaning techniques may leave behind unwanted accumulation. Once the process is finished, a simple rinse is all that’s necessary.
